WEDDING IN AMALFI COAST, ITALY
Get inspired by the founder of Malina, Malin Ek Andrén, and her wedding in Italy, at the stunning hidden gem of the Amalfi Coast, Praiano, and the hotel Casa Privata. Photographer: Karin Lundin @karinlundinstudio, Makeup: @Oraziospisto.
Did you have a party the day before, if so, would you like to describe that evening?
Yes, we had a pizza night the day before the wedding at the amazing beach club called Villa Treville in Positano with stunning views of the Amalfi coast. We took boats there in the sunset and the evening ended with a party in Positano.
What advice would you give future brides when choosing attire for such an event?
I think it's fun to maintain a white theme throughout the weekend. It's hopefully only once in a lifetime that you get to be the center of attention in all white! I love all the short party dresses in our collection; there are so many beautiful options.
Tell us about your wedding dress!
I designed my wedding dress myself. It's now called Malin gown and has appliqués all over the skirt, off-shoulder with a train. I thought it was the perfect wedding dress for southern Italy, a mix of elegant and cool.
How did you choose your hairstyle, makeup, and accessories?
I had my hair down with a hairpiece shaped like a branch, it felt a bit Roman, which was fitting. I went for a natural makeup look and a pair of earrings. My shoes complemented my dress perfectly with the 3d appliqués.
Did you have a special wedding theme?
Yes, we decided to embrace the beautiful ambiance of the Amalfi Coast as our overarching wedding theme. We took inspiration from the iconic elements of the Amalfi coast - the vibrant hues of lemons, the rustic charm of olives, and the timeless allure of the sea and coastline.
What were some of the most memorable moments from your wedding day?
The first evening when all the guests arrived by boat at Villa Treville was incredible. Then, of course, the actual ceremony in the olive grove in Italy - Praiano, at the fantastic resort Casa Privata with all the guests, bridesmaids, children, and dogs was definitely one of the best moments.
What attire and theme did you choose for your bridesmaids, and what inspired your decision regarding their style?
My bridesmaids wore lavender off-shoulder dresses in lace. I thought this purple color was very beautiful together with our theme, the olive trees and all the lavender.
What is your favorite detail about your wedding dress?
The appliqués on the skirt fabric are fantastic.
Could you share the story behind your decision to celebrate your wedding in Italy, specifically on the Amalfi Coast?
We wanted to get married in Italy and looked for a long time. We considered Tuscany, Rome & Puglia but eventually settled on Amalfi. It's a bit tricky to get there, but definitely worth it. Spectacular for everyone who came and it became more than just a wedding. An experience in itself to be along the Amalfi Coast. The food is fantastic and late summer is wonderful.
What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme or style, and how did you bring it to life?
The wedding theme drew inspiration from our location. The natural tones harmonized with the Amalfi coast, featuring hues of yellow, blue and green. Finding a charming venue offers many advantages, making it the top tip for enhancing your wedding setting.
Tell us about your choice of a second dress and how did you style it?
After midnight, I changed into a more party dress filled with sewn stones. It weighs almost 10 kg but is so beautiful! I would have loved to wear it again if the opportunity arises. It's a fun element to change into a second dress if you have the chance.
What are your biggest tips for other brides on their wedding day?
I looked at Pinterest a lot, you can go crazy with it. Try to add your own touch, be involved in as many decisions as you can manage. Make sure the party lasts a long time, have late-night snacks, a great DJ, and a good photographer. Create a detailed schedule, it's easy to forget things during the evening, so it's good to be reminded.
