WEDDING IN THE ARCHIPELAGO

Get inspired by beautiful Therese and Axel's wedding in the swedish archipelago, on a private island located in Stockholm's inlet. Photographer: Alma Vestlund, Make-up: Dominika Newelska

How did you decide on your wedding dress?

I have been working extra as a fitting model for many years at Malina and I have tried a thousand wedding dresses through the years because of that. You would think that would make it easier to choose a dress, but on the opposite it was very hard. My biggest inspiration for the wedding aesthetics was Bettina Looney's wedding 2020. I wanted something extra and fluffy but making it trendy.

Where did your wedding take place?

Our wedding took place at Dalarö Skans, a cute little island in the middle of the Stockholm archipelago. The private island has a rich cultural heritage dating back to the early 17th century and the intimate contact with Stockholms archipelago combined with scandinavian design was a dream location for our wedding. Read more about the location here.

How did you decide on Stockholm archipelago as the location for your wedding?

Me and my husband are both from communities outside Stockholm near the water, Tyresö and Värmdö. Our first vision of the wedding was to be near water and what better place than on a small island, surrounded by it.

What was the best thing about your wedding day?

The best thing no doubt was to be so connected to all our friends and family. Me and Axel have been together for 12 years and met in high school which means we have made many friends together through the years and it was an absolute joy to see them all together.

What would you say is important when choosing your wedding dress?

Choose something that screams YOU. You should not dress for anyone else but yourself. Most important thing is that you feel beautiful and that will show. I would not recommend wearing something that is uncomfortable what might limit you somehow.

What accessories did you wear and how did you choose them?

I went for the beaded birdcage and that was the one item that set the entire look. I LOVE it. I also had a beaded hand bag. When we made our grand entrance I had white sunglasses that I borrowed from a friend, that was a fun detail - especially as the sun was finally out.

Did you have a special dress code for your wedding guests?

Our dress code was business casual and maxi dress, preferably bright and colorful

What did your bridesmaides wear?

All my bridesmaids had Malina (obviously) from the SS23 collection in different colors and prints.

Did you have a special theme for table setting and decorations?

I wanted the wedding to be colorful without being tacky, to be vibrant but sophisticated. I spent a lot of time and effort to make the graphics and color scheme to the wedding, and I was very lucky to have a real pro helping me out: my dear friend and colleague Olivia who is head of marketing at Malina. Together we made the print and color scheme of pastels that encapsulated the entire wedding theme, from the invitations to the bouquet to the table setting.

What was your highlights during the dinner?

All the speeches, we were blown away and amazed of our guest, they were real pro’s and stand-up geniusess!

What is your best tips for a sucessful wedding party?

Great music and beer. No but seriously, to plan and schedule time to dance. To put generations on the dance floor was the best thing about the wedding, never seen my grandmother so happy than on our wedding dance floor.

What tips would you share for other couples planning their weddings?

Make time to plan in advance. I was on maternity leave when I planned our wedding and it was perfect for me since I am not very good with stress. Also, I know it’s important with budgets and all, but after all you only get married one time (hopefully). So the things to are thinking about removing because of budget but really want to have - go for it!
